Sun 1 MarBianca Bondi: Notes on WeatheringYear-long installation by artist Bianca Bondi in the basement of Casino Luxembourg. The work explores how materials transform through natural processes of weathering and degradation over time.
Fri 24 JulCongés AnnulésSummer festival at Rotondes with concerts, DJ sets and terrace evenings, 24 July to 20 August 2026.
Sat 8 AugGuided tours of the Grand Ducal Palace (summer 2026)The official residence of the grand ducal family opens for exclusive 75-minute guided tours until 30 August, taking visitors behind the scenes into the Grand Duke's office, the dining room and the "Salon des Rois". Tours are offered in French, English, German and Luxembourgish, with reduced tickets for children under 12 and free entry for under-4s.My take — Booking required; tours start in front of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office on Place Guillaume II and ticket proceeds go to the Foundation of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess.
Wed 19 AugSunset Cinema — EschFree open-air cinema at parc Gaalgebierg in Esch-sur-Alzette, 19 to 24 August 2026.My take — Free, and no booking exists: first come, first served. Same shape every night — gates 18:00, live concert 20:00, film 21:00. Two nights need a second look before you bring the family: the 22nd (Astérix) is the only French-language screening, and Pulp Fiction on the 23rd is adults only. Light rain does not cancel anything, only storms do.
Thu 20 Aug · 18:00Vu Lilien a Linnen: evening guided tour in EnglishAn English-language evening tour of the national museum's Art Nouveau exhibition, showing how Jugendstil craft and never-before-shown design drawings shaped Luxembourg's art scene around 1900.My take — 5 EUR on top of museum entry, and registration is required (+352 47 93 30-1). An hour after work, in English, on the Fëschmaart — it asks very little of a Thursday evening.
Fri 21 AugFêtes de la MirabelleMetz celebrates its mirabelle plum: festivities at the Esplanade from 21 to 23 August, then at the plan d'eau on 29 and 30 August 2026.My take — Two sites, two moods. This week it is the Esplanade: a food and craft market, 80-odd stands, 10:00 to 19:00 from the 21st to the 23rd. The big evenings come later, at the plan d'eau on 29 and 30 August (Benjamin Biolay Saturday 20:45, fireworks 22:30, nautical parade Sunday 16:30). Free throughout, and the funfair on place de la République runs until 6 September.
Fri 21 Aug · 12:00SchueberfouerLuxembourg's giant funfair and the biggest in the Greater Region: 214 rides, games and food stalls on the Champ du Glacis, 21 August to 9 September 2026, open daily 12:00 to 01:00 (food from 11:00). Family Day with reduced ride prices on Wednesday 26 August, food Family Day on Wednesday 2 September, half-price rides on the closing day until 20:00, fireworks at 22:00 from the Red Bridge. Organised by the City of Luxembourg. My take — Two dates worth planning around: Wednesday 26 August (reduced prices on rides and games all day) and the closing Wednesday 9 September (rides at half price until 20:00, fireworks at 22:00). The City publishes no price list: the budget planner below uses prices a Wort journalist recorded stall by stall in 2025.
Sat 22 AugDiekirch-Valkenswaard CycloLong-distance road cycling sportive from Diekirch (Luxembourg) towards Valkenswaard (Netherlands), a demanding ride for endurance cyclists.
Sat 22 Aug29e Wämper TriathlonTwo-day triathlon at the Weiswampach lakes, in its 29th edition. Saturday runs the youth races, the discovery triathlon and the three-person relay; Sunday holds the Olympic and sprint triathlons, a duathlon and the Wämper Lof over 5 km and 10 km.My take — The relay is the way in if a full triathlon still sounds absurd: three people, one leg each, same finish line. Weiswampach is 45 minutes north of the city and the lake makes it a decent family day out.
Sat 22 AugUTDS Ultra Trail des Sources 2026Point-to-point ultra across seven communes around Spa, Stavelot and Malmedy, with eight certified formats. Saturday runs 160 km from Stavelot, 100 km solo and relay from Sart-lez-Spa, 73 km from Franchimont and 42 km from Lorcé; Sunday takes 27 km from Stoumont, 19 km from Coo and 10 km from Trois-Ponts.My take — Eight distances from 10 km to 160 km off a single weekend, each with its own start village. The 100 km relay is the one to enter with friends.
Sat 22 Aug · 08:00Marché à la BrocanteProfessional antique dealers fill the place d'Armes with vintage furniture, collectibles and unusual finds from 8:00 to 18:00, in the heart of the capital. My take — Sellers are professional dealers (unlike the city vide-grenier, reserved for private individuals). Remaining 2026 dates: 5 and 19 September, 3 and 17 October.
Sat 22 Aug · 10:30Museum Break: Tuffi-Pro — MHVL family stories (ages 6–10)A story-reading session followed by a hands-on creative activity for children aged 6–10 (Tuffi-Pro format) — the big-kid sibling of the 8 August session. Free, registration required. My take — Free — register via citybiblio.lu. If your kids are 4–6, take the 8 August Tuffi-Junior session instead.
Sat 22 Aug · 12:00Stones in Vibration — free family festival at Beaufort CastleA free heritage-and-music festival in the castle: kids' entertainer Jonn Happi (4 sets), stilt theatre CIRCOLO, Nikki Ninja & d'Wibbeldidubs and animations for all — family entertainment against medieval walls. My take — Free, but request tickets via the form on the site — the monuments.lu registration was already closed when I checked.
Sat 22 Aug · 13:00August-Exkursion ins Ourtal (SNL)The Societe des naturalistes luxembourgeois visits the Kalborner Muhle station where endangered freshwater pearl mussels are bred for release back into the Our, then walks the valley to the Tintesmuhle on a naturalist ramble through Natura 2000 meadows. My take — Registration by email is mandatory before 10 August 2026; carpools leave the Mersch P&R (under the red bridge, N7) at 13:00, return around 17:00-18:00; talk given in German.
Sat 22 Aug · 16:00Visite théâtrale « Rien n'est ce qu'il semble être ! » — natur muséeA theatrical guided tour of the animalECH exhibition for familles, suggested à partir de 10 ans — an actor leads kids and parents through the museum in Luxembourgish. My take — Included in the normal museum ticket — and 19 places were still open when I checked, unlike most natur musée summer workshops which are fully booked.
Sat 22 Aug · 19:00Nuit des chauves-souris (Schlammwiss)A dusk walk into the Schlammwiss-Syrdall nature reserve to watch and listen to bats hunting over the reeds, with a natur&emwelt guide explaining which species are out that night. Solid footwear needed. My take — Registration required by 21 August; offered in Luxembourgish, German, French and English.
Sun 23 AugHartfüssler Trail 2026Trail run through the former mining landscape north of Saarbrücken, in its 15th edition. Four courses: 7.5 km (194 m of climbing), 14 km (296 m), 30 km (924 m) and 58 km (1,654 m), with a walking option on the 14 km loop.My take — Old coal country turned singletrack, about an hour from Luxembourg City. The 7.5 km exists so you can try a trail race without committing your whole Sunday.
Sun 23 Aug · 07:00Les Routes de la Mirabelle (cyclo)Open cyclotourist ride organised by the Cyclo Club de Metz, with road routes of 50, 80 and 120 km. Riders leave freely between 07:00 and the 14:00 closing time.My take — A randonnée rather than a race, so nobody is timing you and the 50 km is genuinely relaxed. It lands in mirabelle season, which is the point of going to Metz in August anyway.
Sun 23 Aug · 14:00A medieval walk: Lëtzebuerg City Museum guided tourA two-hour guided walk in English that starts at the museum's model of the city around 1500 and heads into the old town to find the Three Towers, Gothic sculptures and a 12th-century wall preserved in an archaeological crypt. My take — In English; max 20 participants; price = museum entrance (Kulturpass free); registration +352 4796 4500; the crypt is not accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
Wed 26 Aug · 19:00Tash Sultana ConcertAustralian multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana live at den Atelier (doors 19:00).
Fri 28 Aug · 18:00dm Frauenlauf Saarlouis 2026Women-only 6 km run and walk starting on the Kleiner Markt in Saarlouis and following the Saaraltarm oxbow. Runners start at 18:00 and walkers at 18:05, with live music afterwards. My take — A Friday evening race, so no weekend to sacrifice. Online entry shuts on 10 August, well before the race, though late entry is possible on the spot.
Sat 29 Aug · 17:00Tower Power Trail 2026Tenth edition of the trail linking the landmarks of the Clervaux area, from the twisted spire at Weicherdange to the castle and golf course. Three courses, each also open to walkers: 21 km with 727 m of climbing, 10 km with 309 m and 5 km with 114 m, all starting at 17:00. Three free children's races run at 15:15, 15:30 and 15:45 by age group, and there is a barbecue with live music at the finish. My take — A 17:00 start means you finish in the evening light over the Clervaux valley, then eat on site. The children's races are free, which makes this one of the rare trails you can turn into a family outing.
Sat 29 Aug · 19:00Kurt Vile & The Violators ConcertKurt Vile & The Violators live at den Atelier, 19:00 to 23:00.

Two formats: S over 5 to 6 km with 15 obstacles, and L over 10 to 12 km with 40 obstacles, minimum age 16. Waves leave from 09:30 every fifteen minutes until 12:15, and a children's Frappajeune race runs the day before. My take — Mud, water and forty obstacles: bring clothes you are willing to throw away and shoes you have already written off. The wave format means you go round with the people you came with.

Kids aged 5–11 pay a reduced fare.My take — €18 adult / €13 child covers the trains all day — the mine train is the sleeper hit with kids.
Sun 6 Sep · 10:00Konscht am GronnOpen-air art market on the bridge in the historic Grund district, where up to 34 international artists sell paintings, photography, ceramics, glass and sculpture from 10:00 to 18:00.My take — Next date after this one: Sunday 4 October 2026, same hours.

The main race sets off at 10:15 and lets runners pick 15 km or the half marathon at the turnaround; a 5 km run follows at 10:30, with children's races from 09:15. The Saarland half-marathon championships are decided here.My take — The nearest proper half marathon to Luxembourg, barely half an hour past Schengen. Choosing 15 km or 21 km at the turnaround rather than at sign-up is unusually forgiving on a hot day.
Sun 6 Sep · 15:00Cinema Paradiso: Le Voyage dans la Lune — kids cinema (dès 6 ans)The Cinémathèque's Sunday kids-cinema series screens the Norwegian stop-motion moon adventure « Månelyst i Flåklypa » (French version, 80 min) with a short intro to the film for children — recommandé à partir de 6 ans.My take — Cinema Paradiso runs every Sunday — relocated to the Théâtre des Capucins while the Cinémathèque is renovated. Each film gets a kid-sized intro.
Mon 7 Sep · 09:00Braderie de Luxembourg-VilleThe city's end-of-summer street sale: over 100 shops move their stalls onto the pavements of the Ville Haute for a day of markdowns, with street food and entertainment. Monday 7 September 2026, 09:00-19:00.My take — A rare Monday where the whole centre turns into a bazaar. A 5 km race joins the programme in 2026. Organised by CAL Spora Luxembourg. My take — One mile, flat, straight down the city's grandest avenue with the road closed. It hurts for about six minutes and then it is over, which is the whole appeal.
Sat 12 SepTrail du Hérou 2026Trail on the technical terrain around the Hérou rock spur above the Ourthe. Six races: 7.5 km with 320 m of climbing, 16.4 km with 1,050 m, 25.3 km with 1,450 m, 33 km with 1,750 m, a 42.9 km marathon trail with 2,200 m and the 60 km Maxi Hérou with 2,700 m.My take — Over a thousand metres of climbing in sixteen kilometres tells you what kind of terrain this is. The Hérou meander is one of the best views in the Ardennes and you get it on foot.
Sat 12 Sep · 11:00Butschebuerger BuergfestDudelange's medieval weekend, billed by the commune as the biggest medieval festival of the Greater Region: a market of over 90 traders and artisans plus knight tournaments, acrobatics, a fire show and troubadours, a great family day out.My take — Saturday 11:00-24:00, Sunday 10:00-19:00. Entries run from 4 to 17 EUR.My take — The closest foreign trail to Luxembourg City, barely half an hour down the road, and it runs through a UNESCO-listed Vauban fortress. Hard to beat for the price.
Sun 13 Sep · 10:00Qbuild Arlon Semi-Marathon 2026Fifth edition of Arlon's city road race, starting and finishing on the place Léopold. The half marathon and the 10 km both start at 10:00, with a Kids Run of about 1.5 km for under-12s at 09:30.My take — The nearest real half marathon to Luxembourg City, half an hour down the motorway, and Arlon is close enough that plenty of the field lives on our side of the border.
Sun 13 Sep · 11:00Quetschefest EllangeThe village of Ellange celebrates the quetsche plum, a Luxembourgish early-autumn staple, with a local festival at the Centre Culturel Martialis from 11:00 to 20:00.My take — Ellange is one of the three villages of the commune of Mondorf-les-Bains; the fest is listed on the commune's official agenda.

Pick a climb rather than the finish line: you see the race for longer and you are not fighting the crowd.

Registration at the Clervaux race HQ is compulsory and entries close on 11 September. My take — Two hundred kilometres on foot from La-Roche-en-Ardenne to Clervaux, and the walking categories mean it is not only for runners. If you are not entering, the Clervaux finish line on Sunday is worth the drive on its own.
Sat 19 SepRiesling OpenOpen-cellar wine weekend across four Moselle villages — Wormeldange, Ehnen, Ahn and Machtum — where winegrowers pour Riesling and Crémant, with the crowning of the Riesling Queen. 19-20 September 2026.My take — The free MS Princesse Marie-Astrid shuttle boat between the villages is the whole trick: park once, taste your way down the Moselle. Times and any tasting-pass price for 2026 weren't published yet when I checked.
Sat 19 SepTrail des Fées 202612th edition in the forests around Bertrix, with trails of 12, 22, 39 and 55 km, a 13 km walk and children's races of 500 m, 800 m and 1,200 m. The 12 km and 22 km are also run as Joëlette-accessible courses for participants with reduced mobility. Entries are online only, with no race-day registration. My take — The Joëlette courses are the reason to single this one out: it is one of the few trails in the region built so that someone in a wheelchair gets round the same forest as everyone else. Enter early, there is no signing up on the day.
Sat 19 SepPOP Gaming Festival 2026POST Luxembourg's gaming weekend takes over Luxexpo The Box with a large free-play zone, VR experiences, cosplay contest and the POP Esports Masters season 7 finals on the main stage. Built for gamers and families alike, with Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn as guest star.My take — Tickets sold online via the festival billetterie; the three official POP Esports Masters competitions require advance registration with qualification phases before the event.

Three formats: 100 km solo over 25 laps, 50 km solo, and a 100 km relay for teams of two to ten.My take — The relay is the sane entry: split a hundred kilometres between up to ten people and spend the day by the water. The organisers explicitly call out the Grande Région, so expect a Luxembourg contingent.
Sat 19 Sep · 09:30Light On Tri Madine 2026Two-day triathlon festival on the Lac de Madine, roughly midway between Metz and Nancy. Saturday holds the L half-distance of 1.9 km swim, 85 km bike and 21 km run; Sunday the S format at 09:00 and the M format at 13:30, alongside children's races and a standalone 7 km run. Each format has a capped field. My take — Madine is a proper lake with space to camp, so this works as a weekend rather than a morning. The S format is short enough to be a first triathlon.

Three family walking routes of 8, 13 and 20 km run alongside. My take — Five hundred places only, so this one sells out rather than fills up.
