Six weeks of opening makes this the longest-running Christmas market within easy reach, and the Sentier des Lanternes is the part worth queueing for.
about the event
Metz spreads its Christmas markets over five squares with around 130 chalets. Opening hours are 11:00 to 21:00 Sunday to Thursday and 11:00 to 22:00 Friday and Saturday, while the Place de la Comédie site runs evenings only on weekdays. The Sentier des Lanternes, the Moselle department's lantern trail, opens from 21 November. The market closes at 16:00 on 24 December, stays shut on 25 December and closes at 20:00 on 30 December. Floating sleigh rides are listed as free.
