Christkindelsmaerik Strasbourg 202627 Nov – 24 Dec 2026Opening hours2025 hours, 2026 to be confirmed: chalets open daily 11:30-21:00 on the 8 market sites of the historic centre (Place Broglie, Cathedral, Place Kléber, Petite France and four other squares); opening day from 14:00; 24 December until 18:00. In 2025 the market ran 26 November to 24 December and the Giant Christmas Tree on Place Kléber stayed lit until 5 January 2026.Parking and access2025 scheme, 2026 to be confirmed: Car traffic is banned on the Grande Île during market hours and on-street parking there was prohibited from 25 November 2025 at 22:00. The city recommends the 12 P+R car parks on the tram network: 4.20 euros a day, unlimited CTS tram and bus for up to 7 people, open 7 days from 04:30 to 02:00; a temporary Zénith P+R with shuttle bus on Saturdays and Sundays; the Vendenheim TER station car park for drivers arriving on the A4 from Metz. The Luxembourg Christmas season opens with Winterlights, the capital's end-of-year festival: the Ville de Luxembourg announces the next edition from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 (vdl.lu, read on 11 October 2026). On that date its Winterlights page gives these dates only; the market sites, the attractions and the opening hours of the 2026 edition are not published there yet. For reference, in 2025 the markets stood on Place d'Armes, Place de la Constitution and Place de Paris, with an ice rink at the Kinnekswiss. The Ville de Luxembourg organises the Kleeschen on Tour parade for Saint-Nicolas Day, when Kleeschen and Housecker walk from Gare Centrale to Place Guillaume II distributing candy bags to children along the route.

Outside the capital, the Chreschtmoart in Echternach fills the medieval town square, and smaller markets appear in Vianden, Clervaux and across the Moselle valley. The Greater Region multiplies the choices: Strasbourg's Christkindelsmaerik, one of the oldest in Europe (since 1570), is two hours by train from Luxembourg. Trier's Weihnachtsmarkt on the Hauptmarkt is under an hour away, and the Marché de Noël in Metz fills Place Saint-Louis and the cathedral quarter. The Saarbrücker Christkindl-Markt and the Fêtes de Saint-Nicolas in Nancy round out the cross-border circuit.

Planning a weekend trip? The markets typically open in late November and close by Christmas Eve or just after. Most are free to enter; you pay at individual chalets for food, mulled wine and crafts. Public transport works well for the nearest ones: direct trains connect Luxembourg to Metz (50 min), Trier (50 min) and Strasbourg (2 h).
