my take

Fifty editions is a lot for a country this size, and it shows in how smoothly the morning runs. The 5.5 km jogging option is untimed enough to be sociable.

about the event

Sunday 4 October 2026, start 10:00 in Walferdange (Minilaf 09:50): 12.5 km 25 euros, 5.4 km jogging 20 euros, late entries on site Friday and Saturday only. The 50th edition of the Foyer Vollekslaf Walfer runs on Sunday 4 October 2026 on a new course through the Alzette valley in Walferdange. The 12.5 km main race, the 5.4 km jogging and the 5.4 km junior race start together at 10:00 from 3, route de Diekirch, and the 1 km Minilaf for children starts at 09:50. Online entry is through ChipLauf, with late entries on site on Friday and Saturday but not on race morning.

Preparing for Foyer Walfer Vollekslaf 2026?

Race week. What the literature says, not a prescription: keep intensity, cut volume (Bosquet et al. 2007) · carbohydrate 10 to 12 g per kg of body weight per day for the 36 to 48 hours before an event longer than 90 minutes (ACSM, AND and DC position stand, Thomas et al. 2016) · 7 to 9 hours of sleep for adults (Hirshkowitz et al. 2015). Results usually appear on the organiser's page after the race.

The 50th edition takes place on Sunday 4 October 2026 in Walferdange. The 12.5 km main race, the 5.4 km jogging and the 5.4 km junior race start at 10:00 from 3, route de Diekirch; the 1 km Minilaf starts at 09:50 on rue des Nations Unies.
How much does the Walfer Vollekslaf 2026 cost, and when do online entries close?
Fees published on walfy.lu: the 12.5 km costs 18 €, then 25 € from 21 September 2026; the 5.4 km jogging 13 €, then 20 €; the 5.4 km junior race and the 1 km Minilaf are free, then 7 € from 21 September. Entries are taken on ChipLauf (event Foyer Vollekslaf Walfer 2026), which lists the online deadline as 1 October 2026 at 15:00, while the 2026 press kit says online entries run until 3 October 2026 at 24:00. Late entries are taken on site at the Centre culturel Prince Henri on Friday 2 October (17:00 to 19:00) and Saturday 3 October (10:30 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00), never on Sunday morning. The rules allow no refund in case of non-participation, whatever the reason.
What distances are available at the Walfer Vollekslaf?
Four races: the 12.5 km main race, a 5.4 km jogging run, a 5.4 km junior race for young people born between 2009 and 2015, and the 1 km Minilaf for children born between 2015 and 2021.
Can I register or collect my bib on site at the Walfer Vollekslaf?
Yes, at the Centre culturel Prince Henri on Friday 2 October from 17:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday 3 October from 10:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. On Sunday morning there is no registration: bibs can only be collected.
Where can I park for the Walfer Vollekslaf, and do trains run?
The organiser lists the eduPôle visitor car park for runners, the Garage Losch car park and the Stade Henri Dunant football ground in Beggen. Trains run normally on race day, and a special stop is set up in both directions between Luxembourg and Mersch. The route de Luxembourg and the rue de Steinsel are closed from 09:00 to about 10:30.
Where are the Walfer Vollekslaf results published?
Results are posted online on walfy.lu after the race. A results booklet follows at the end of November 2026 and is sent to participants who asked for it.
What time is the prize-giving at the Walfer Vollekslaf, and is there a time limit?
The prize-giving for the 12.5 km and junior winners is at about 11:15 outside, in front of the Hall Omnisports on the sports ground. There is no ranking and no prizes by age category. The 12.5 km and the Minilaf have a tombola: drop your bib in the urn at the Centre culturel after the race. There is no cut-off as such: the race is closed by a broom wagon, and anyone overtaken by it may continue at their own risk while respecting the Highway Code. Bibs can also be collected on Sunday morning between 08:00 and 09:00.
Is there childcare, a cloakroom and showers at the Walfer Vollekslaf?
Yes. A free childcare for children aged 2 to 8 runs from 08:30 to 12:30, organised by the a.s.b.l. Mammen hëllefe Mammen; it is reserved for children whose parents run, limited to 30 children, and registration is compulsory. Showers are at the Centre sportif; the cloakroom is at the Centre sportif for adults and in the eduPôle courtyard for children. There is one aid station at km 6 of the 12 km course, and drinks, fruit and cake are offered at the finish. Personal timing chips are not accepted: the chip is built into the bib.
