my take
The Blancs Moussis in their long-nosed white hoods have been doing this since the 16th century. It is the most genuinely strange folk event within two hours of Luxembourg.
about the event
Stavelot's Walloon carnival, held on the fourth Sunday of Lent rather than at Shrovetide. Saturday brings a night parade from 20:30 with more than 1,500 participants and 30 societies; Sunday is the big Blancs Moussis procession with 2,500 participants, 25 societies, five tonnes of confetti and fireworks. The parades are in the streets; a marquee and shuttle buses are organised separately.
