On the first Sunday of Advent, 29 November 2026, the City-Initiative Trier (CIT) holds the last shopping Sunday of the year: shops and service businesses in Trier's city centre open from 13:00 to 18:00. The association announces the winter lights switched on every evening from the Porta Nigra to the Viehmarkt, the Winterland Trier attraction and the 46th edition of the city's festive season market, with food and mulled wine along the way. It also points to the Trier gift voucher, accepted in more than 85 local businesses.
